Some courses may ask students to create media files (audio or video) and submit them to an activity in Moodle. Because of the large size of some media files, we do not recommend submitting such files directly to Moodle. Instead, students should upload media files to a sharing platform, then submit a link to the hosted media

For media you do not mind making public, or sharing only with those who have the link, you can use an account on YouTube, Vimeo, Ted Talks, SlideShare, Issue, SoundCloud, Office 365 Video, etc. When you create a link to the URL of the page where media is hosted on these services, the media will be embedded and play on the page in Moodle.

Share Hosted Media Content

Students can share media (audio, video, presentations, etc.) that they or others post on hosting services including YouTube, Vimeo, Ted Talks, SlideShare, Issue, SoundCloud, Office 365 Video, etc.

Note: While most hosting services allow you to restrict access to viewers who have the link, keep in mind that these are generally a more public means of sharing media.

Step 1, go to the hosting service page of the media. Copy the web page URL from your browser's location bar.

Note: DO NOT copy the embed code. (Moodle does not give students the capability to embed media using iframe code.)

Step 2, go to the Moodle Assignment, Forum post, or other activity in Moodle and click the Media button (screenshot of media icon Moodle 3.0). The Insert media pop-up will open.

Step 3, in the Enter URL field, paste the web page URL you copied in step 1, and (important!) in the Enter name field, provide a name for the item, then click Insert media. A link will appear in the Editor window with the name you provided.

Note: The media does not preview embedded in the Editor window, you will only see the link for now.

Step 4, click Save changes or Post to forum. The embedded media should appear in the Moodle activity.
